Angela Easterling and the Beguilers

Greenville’s Angela Easterling and her new band, The Beguilers, will entertain at the Spring Water Festival with their country-folk American influenced music and songs that have gained the attention of a number of people in the music business.

The Beguilers features guitarist Brandon Turner and drummer Jeff Hook, both of whom Angela met in Spartanburg, and play on her latest CD Beguiler. The album follows 2009s Black Top Road which drew a lot of attention.

Both albums were produced by singer-songwriter Will Kimbrough, who is currently serving as Emmylou Harris’ lead guitarist and is known for his work with Rodney Crowell, Todd Snider and Jimmy Buffett. Also helping out in the studio are bassist Byron House, from Robert Plant’s Band of Joy and multi-instrumentalist Fats Kaplin; while two South Carolina songbirds, Fayssoux Starling McLean, a longtime harmony singer for Emmylou Harris and folk-pop artist Hannah Miller add their voices to the album’s finale, “Anchored in Love”.

Easterling’s songwriting has made her a two-time Kerrville New Folk Finalist and a 2011 Telluride Troubadour Finalist, and has gained critical lauding from Oxford American, The Philadelphia Inquirer, The Boston Herald, a prolific interview with NPR’s Bob Edwards, and heavy airplay on Sirius XM’s Outlaw Country.

She can be seen at area festivals and music houses and has performed all over the East Coast including Nashville.

Her songs feature storytelling through Americana songwriting provocative music and lyrics which are presented through her persona.

After graduating college, Easterling moved to Los Angeles to further her music - and she quickly learned the Catch-22 of working in the music industry. “I had to work a day job to pay my bills, but I spent so much time working, I couldn’t play music and totally lost track” she said. “To get yourself out there, you have to tour, so why am I paying this high rent if I’m never going to be here anyway?” So Angela Easterling went back to South Carolina, and found everything she needed in her own backyard - including a permanent band and a constant stream of inspiration.

What she found in her native Greenville had Roger McGuinn, founder of legendary folk rock group The Byrds, calling her “a bright shining star on the horizon,” going on to say “Her gift is so special&ldots;.brought me back to the time the Byrds recorded Sweetheart of the Rodeo - tradition meets youthful exuberance.”

The Spring Water Festival welcomes Angela Easterling and the Beguilers to our stage.

The album on which that song appeared, “Don’t Make it Easy on Me” was the first in any genre to have four number one hits on it.

Through the 1980s and ’90s, Conley led the country music charts with a string of hits.

“We are very proud and excited to that Earl Thomas Conley will be entertaining at the 30th Annual Spring Water Festival,” Festival Chairman David Meade said. “During the time Conley’s musical career was taking off, Williamston’s Spring Water Festival was also growing in recognition as one of the premier festivals in the Upstate.”

“More than 3000 people came on the first day of the festival last year,” Meade said. “Adding Friday evening to our activites was a big success with a lot of support from the community.”

On Saturday, music on the amphitheater stage will feature performances by local singer Hannah Canille Rogers who recently recorded a CD in Nashville, Tennessee. Rogers will be appearing with Georgia singer/songwriter Rex Norton, who will also be performing songs from his CD and new songs that will be on an upcoming CD.
