The “Out-Of-Towners”  were formed in 2001 by three former members of three well-known regional beach music bands from the upstate.

They are a locally based band with two full-time members, Joey Werner (of Williamston) (keyboard, guitar, percussion, vocals) and Steve Craig (vocals and entertainer).  The band has various part-time members including Scott Nance, Alan Nowell, Reggie Mull, Jerry Adams, Tony Kennedy with cameo appearances by Bruce Caldwell - saxes, and Johnny Cox of the “Original Swingin’ Medallions” on sax and vocals.

After arriving at an engagement in Charleston with no name yet assigned to the newly formed group, the band found that, in their absence and for advertisement purposes, Charleston residents had created a name for them; The Out-Of-Towners Band!

The group delivers a combined 90 years of experience in Beach, Motown, R&B, and Oldies music. Their popularity continues to grow each year as they span the East Coast of the US performing and promoting Carolina Beach Music and the State dance, “the Shag”.

The group has performed with well-known beach music groups including The Swingin’ Medallions, The Chairmen Of The Board, Maurice Williams and The Zodiacs, Billy Scott and The Prophets, Archie Bell and The Drells, The Impressions, Hack Bartley and Shuffle, and Clifford Curry and others. They have entertained up and down the East Coast and on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC for members of Congress.

During 2006, they released their second CD, “Down At The Beach”, consisting of several original tunes including “Calming My Fears” and“Billy’s Club Savoy” which traveled up the “BEACH MUSIC TOP 40” Chart for over 16 weeks. It also moved well up the “The Smokin’45" Chart listed in CashBox Magazine, and is still working The 94.9FM-The Surf Top 40 Chart at North Myrtle Beach, consistantly in their Top 10.

During 2007, The Band released their third CD entitled “Just Here Overnight” which includes the hit single “Boogie Down Blues” and “Shaggin’ King and Queen.”

Their latest CD "Curry's Lake" includes "A Tribute To Curry's Lake", a popular hangout in the 1950s and 60s. It also includes "Irene","Clean-up Man", "Hold On To The Blues", "Wine and Dine", "Pennies From Heaven", "R&R", Lil' Ole Lovemaker Me", "Shortnin' Bread Linedance", "and "Cornell Crawford."

Come enjoy authenic Beach Music in the Upstate as we kick off the 2010 Spring Water Festival beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday evening.
